Independence Through Mobility

A lack of mobility limits independence. Mobility decreases over time for many reasons, gradually or suddenly. Since 84% of adults will face chronic pain when rising, it remains a daily problem for many.

The Problem

The Question

How might we help seniors go through daily tasks without mobility issues hindering independence?

Four Requirements

Needs to be light enough for everyday use

Must adjust height easily to serve all heights

Needs to give an assistive push when rising

Must visually blend into daily life

What if the cane could extend and help push the user up, requiring less strength, using an adjustable gas strut?

Lifting the slide door reveals a USB-C port for charging, as well as a pressure adjustment system

Dual buttons can change the pressure depending on the needed assist

Reinforced by steel tubing with a joint brace to ensure strength for supporting a variety of people

Covering one sensor releases the gas strut and allows for easy height adjustment, while covering both activates an assistive lift
